Vet refuses to euthanize healthy cat who was surrendered by owners and gives him a home at the animal hospital; the abandoned feline grows aggressive, until one new employee earns his trust, and he finally chooses a home
via Mariel RuvinskyWe have said it before, and we will say it again - abandoning a cat is one of the worst things that you can possibly do to them. It should be avoided at all costs. Cats bond with their humans. Just the one or a few humans. It is a rare thing for a cat to be able to bond with everyone. And when they are abandoned by that one or those few people - the only people that they trust - their faith in humans is broken. With Cavity, the cat whose story was shared on Reddit, that was exactly what had happened.

Orange kitten 'Otter' born without a complete skull gets a titanium implant and wears a custom 3D-printed helmet to purrtect his tiny noggin
via Blake SeidelEven after nearly 6 years of being an editor for I Can Has Cheezburger, cats still surprise me. It's not just the heartwarming rescue stories filled with kind people, or the cats that are born with rare fur patterns and unique colorings, but how resilient felines are that gets me. Indoor cats can survive for years being lost outside and eventually find their way back to their pawrents, never once giving up.

Homeless woman saves kitten from a gang of raccoons, she knows she can't properly care for her, so she hands the kitten to a person on a walk with their cat, and they happily take her home
via Mariel RuvinskyTruly being a cat person means being able to make the right decisions for them, even if they might disagree with them. It means putting your cat on a diet, even if your cat thinks it's the worst thing in the world. It means giving your cat medicine when they need it, even if they hate the taste and run from it. And it means making the most difficult decision - if you cannot provide your cat with its basic needs, then the best thing to do for it is to find someone else who can.

via Briana ViserKids really do keep us on our toes. Everything could be as calm as ever, and suddenly a scream, a cry, a shout at something. There's a sense volatile energy all the time, because with kids you never know what they're capable of. They're about as unpredictable as someone can get, and it gets worse when there's a group of them like at schools.

After her owner passed away, this 17-year-old cat's family decided she was a "burden to everyone" and tossed her onto the streets; luckily, she was rescued and adopted, and during her final 2 years, she was truly loved again
via Mariel RuvinskyOne of our greatest fears, as cat owners, is our cat crossing the rainbow bridge. It's something that we know will happen one day, and we knew it back when we adopted our cats too. It's inevitable. One day, it will happen. And that's awful. It just is. But at the ned of the day, we know that this is how things are supposed to be.

17-year-old lioness survives for years after going blind and getting kicked out of her pride because her daughters refused to leave her behind
via Blake SeidelWe've all heard it before, probably for the first time in your 8th-grade biology class: "survival of the fittest". Only the strongest survive; mercy for none. By all accounts, Josie should not have lived to be 17-years-old, which is far longer than the average lifespan of a generic lioness.
